Detailed Explanation of Characteristics and Selection of Semiconductor Discharge Tube
What is a lightning protection device? The lightning protection device is used to provide protection for circuits and various electrical equipment under the condition of over-voltage and over-current of lightning surge. When the lightning protection device works normally, the lightning protection device is disconnected; when the lightning surge comes, the lightning protection device is turned on and the surge current is discharged to the ground, thus maintaining the electronic equipment from surge impact damage. There are several common lightning protection devices in the market: semiconductor discharge tube, ceramic gas discharge tube and glass discharge tube (powerful discharge tube), how to choose the best protection level and the most suitable for the lightning protection device in the market.

First of all, it is necessary to control the working principle, characteristic parameters and selection specifications of various electronic maintenance devices. Youen Semiconductor takes the selection of semiconductor discharge tubes as an example to introduce how to select the type? Characteristic parameters of semiconductor discharge tube: ① off-state voltage VRM and leakage current IRM: off-state voltage VRM represents the highest voltage at which the semiconductor overvoltage maintainer does not conduct, and only a small leakage current IRM is required at this voltage. ② breakdown voltage VBR: voltage after regular test current IR (normally 1mA), which is the sign voltage at which the semiconductor overvoltage maintainer starts to conduct.
③ Transfer voltage VBO and transfer current IBO: When the voltage rises to reach the transfer voltage VBO, the semiconductor overvoltage maintainer is completely turned on, showing a small impedance, and the voltage VT at both ends immediately drops to a very low value (usually about 5V). ④ Peak pulse current IPP: the maximum pulse current that the semiconductor overvoltage maintainer can accept. ⑤ Maintaining current IH: The minimum current for the semiconductor overvoltage maintainer to continue to maintain the on-state. Once the current flowing through it is less than the sustain current IH, it returns to the off state.
